Further, instead of asking the public whether they want open space or buildings, all of the options currently being considered by Council are for development. Proposals include demolishing the existing colonial style buildings and replacing them with Viaduct Basin type high rise buildings. It seems the only open space will be a 27 metre strip from the water line.  The current Mayor and councillors have assured us that these options would be put before the public for consultation, but when it comes to consultation their track record is not one to be proud of.
