Thursday, July 23, 2009 Museum Debate
There has been some debate in the media regarding the future administration of the Whangarei Heritage museum. One letter to the editor suggested control of the museum should be passed back to the Whangarei District Council. Another option suggested is that the clubs and organisations using the museum grounds and facilities should be funded separately and independently of the administrating trust which is bulk funded at present. Both options have their own merits and demerits but the over-riding issue is that this community asset should be managed in a financial responsible and efficient manner and with the best interests of the community at its core. The Whangarei Heritage Museum is a valuable community asset and the manner in which it is administered needs to be of the highest professional standards.
